About this role

Observable Space is hiring an Electrical Engineer to design and develop PCBs, circuits, and wire harnesses for space-based telescope and observatory hardware. You'll handle circuit simulation, prototyping, testing, and collaborate across mechanical and software teams to deliver reliable, manufacturable electrical systems for advanced space infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Design electronic circuits, PCBs, and wire harnesses for telescope and observatory hardware
  • Perform circuit simulations, schematic capture, and layout reviews for functionality and manufacturability
  • Build and test prototypes including PCB bring-up, rework, and hands-on soldering/modifications
  • Develop test procedures for electrical subsystems and perform debugging with oscilloscopes and analyzers
  • Support design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for reliability (DFR) reviews
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams on system integration and documentation

What they're looking for

  • PCB design and layout (Altium or equivalent)
  • Circuit simulation (LTSpice or similar)
  • DC power circuits, motor drivers, and interface protocols (I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, PCIe)
  • Signal integrity, EMI/EMC compliance, and transmission line structures
  • PCB rework including soldering, trace cutting, and wire harnessing
  • Test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers)
  • Wire harnessing fundamentals (hi-pot testing, impedance characterization, shielding)
  • Design for manufacturing and field reliability mindset

Benefits

  • Competitive salary aligned with industry standards
  • Stock options and equity opportunities
  • Flexible work environment with hybrid office setup
