FluidStack
Structural Engineer, Modular R&D
About this role
Fluidstack is hiring a Structural Engineer to design and validate factory-built modular data center units that support large-scale AI compute infrastructure. You'll own structural systems from concept through fabrication drawings, ensure modules survive transport and stacking intact, and solve cross-disciplinary integration challenges between structure and MEP systems.
What you'll do
- Engineer structural frames, enclosures, and lifting/transport structures for modular data center products from concept through fabrication drawings
- Develop and validate structural calculations and load paths to ensure modules withstand fabrication, shipping, rigging, and stacking without rework
- Coordinate with MEP disciplines to resolve penetrations, attachment points, and tolerance conflicts at system interfaces
- Provide same-day field and factory support, troubleshooting RFIs and engineering fixes into subsequent design revisions
- Lead prototyping, mockups, fit checks, and first-article reviews with hands-on presence at fabrication and test sites
- Ensure drawings are clean and complete, minimizing fabricator callbacks and rework
What they're looking for
- Structural design for modular construction, heavy fabrication, or complex physical products
- Steel and sheet metal design with hands-on experience from concept through production
- Transport, lifting, and stacking load analysis as primary design drivers
- 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, or Revit)
- Structural detailing standards (AISC, AWS)
- Cross-functional collaboration and rapid iteration without losing configuration control
- Design for manufacturability (DFM) principles
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred)

Likely interview questions
- Describe a modular or heavy fabrication product you took from concept to production—what were the toughest structural challenges and how did you solve them?
- Walk us through how you approached transport and lifting loads in a past design; did you discover any issues in the field, and how did you prevent them in future iterations?
