Resident Mechanical Engineer, Modular R&D
About this role
Fluidstack is seeking a Resident Mechanical Engineer to oversee the mechanical systems of modular data center products on our Phoenix manufacturing line. You'll own cooling, piping, and airflow systems from design release through rate production, working directly on the factory floor to catch and resolve issues in real time.
What you'll do
- Own mechanical systems (cooling, piping, airflow) from released drawings through rate production on the manufacturing line
- Walk the production floor daily to identify and disposition assembly and piping issues at their source
- Conduct first-article reviews, fit checks, and pressure tests personally as units move through the line
- Address mechanical RFIs same-day and engineer fixes into design revisions rather than allowing one-off deviations
- Feed manufacturing learnings back to design team to update drawings, tolerances, and BOMs to prevent recurring issues
- Maintain configuration control across rapid design iterations while keeping the line synchronized with current builds
