Resident Controls Engineer, Modular R&D
About this role
Fluidstack seeks a Controls Engineer to oversee the commissioning and testing of modular data center units on a Phoenix manufacturing line. You'll ensure PLC, BMS, and sensor systems function flawlessly before shipment, troubleshoot issues in real-time, and feed production learnings back into design iterations.
What you'll do
- Engineer and validate controls systems (PLCs, BMS, sensors, I/O) on modular units throughout production
- Perform point-to-point checkout, loop checks, and functional tests on units as they move down the line
- Walk the manufacturing floor daily to identify and resolve wiring and I/O defects at source
- Provide same-day technical support to resolve RFIs and engineering questions from production staff
- Document test results and defect dispositions to hand off units in known-good condition
- Close feedback loop between manufacturing line and design team to prevent recurring issues

- PLC programming and commissioning (Rockwell or Siemens preferred)
- Building Management Systems (BMS) integration and troubleshooting
- Point-to-point checkout and loop testing on industrial control panels
- Panel and wiring diagram interpretation per industry standards
- Configuration control and change management
- Industrial sensor and instrumentation experience
- Data center systems familiarity
- Production line or shop floor troubleshooting
