About this role

Neuralink is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to enhance the reliability of implantable brain-computer interfaces by managing the full simulation-to-test loop. This role focuses on the development of high-performance materials and involves extensive collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with mechanical integrity standards.

What you'll do

  • Build and validate explicit dynamics FEA models for mechanical response predictions
  • Manage the end-to-end mechanical testing pipeline, including fixture design and results correlation
  • Translate physical test data into material model inputs and optimize parameters
  • Coordinate and oversee various test projects while ensuring data quality
  • Extend validated impact models to cover other reliability domains
  • Support cross-functional reliability programs as required

What they're looking for

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with explicit dynamics FEA (LS-DYNA, Abaqus)
  • Hands-on mechanical testing experience
  • Knowledge of polymer or composite material characterization
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Familiarity with ASTM/IEC test standards
  • Ability to work independently and define test plans
  • Experience with high-strain-rate testing preferred

Benefits

  • Equity compensation in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
  • Opportunity to work on innovative technology
  • Collaboration with a talented team
  • Potential for career growth and development
  • Comprehensive benefits package

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a project where you built an explicit dynamics FEA model (LS-DYNA or Abaqus/Explicit) and validated it against physical test data. What metrics did you use to quantify correlation?
  • Describe your experience designing and running mechanical tests end-to-end. What testing equipment have you hands-on experience with, and how did you ensure data quality?
