About this role

Astera Neuro seeks a Research Scientist or Engineer to lead development of a next-generation functional ultrasound imaging platform for whole-brain imaging in awake macaques. You will build and optimize the imaging system, design experiments, develop computational pipelines, and analyze large-scale datasets to map primate brain function at unprecedented scale.

What you'll do

  • Build, validate, and optimize volumetric functional ultrasound imaging platform for awake macaques
  • Design and execute multimodal neuroscience experiments combining imaging with behavioral paradigms and other recording techniques
  • Develop computational pipelines for image reconstruction, preprocessing, registration, quality control, and statistical analysis
  • Analyze large-scale imaging datasets using statistical and machine learning approaches
  • Generate high-resolution anatomical and functional brain atlases by registering data across sessions and animals
  • Collaborate with engineers and software developers to improve hardware and acquisition software

What they're looking for

  • Functional ultrasound imaging or comparable neuroimaging technology
  • In vivo neuroscience experimentation, preferably in primates or awake macaques
  • Python and/or MATLAB programming
  • Image reconstruction and signal processing
  • Statistical analysis and machine learning
  • Experimental design and neuroscience methodology
  • Data visualization and atlas development
  • Hardware-software integration

Benefits

  • Philanthropically funded, well-resourced research environment
  • Collaborative team of neuroscientists, engineers, and computational scientists
  • Opportunity to build a next-generation imaging platform from the ground up
  • Access to open science infrastructure and shared datasets
  • Leadership and mentorship opportunities at senior levels
