RF/Microwave Engineer (RFIC Engineering)

Redmond, WAmidAdded 3 weeks ago

About this role

SpaceX seeks an RF/Microwave engineer to develop next-generation RFICs for Starlink satellite and ground systems. You'll design RF front-end circuits, derive hardware specifications, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance global broadband connectivity.

What you'll do

  • Simulate and model RF front-end systems, partitioning functions between hardware and software
  • Derive RF hardware specifications for systems and individual RF blocks
  • Design RF/microwave circuits, MMICs, boards, and packages
  • Evaluate and characterize prototypes and RF components
  • Characterize full radio performance and conduct system analysis
  • Support automated test equipment development and production testing with manufacturing

What they're looking for

  • RF/microwave circuit design (power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers, mixers, filters, PLLs)
  • RF simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, AWR)
  • Test equipment operation (spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, network analyzers)
  • Digital communication theory (QPSK, APSK, QAM, bit error rate, noise figure)
  • PCB design (Altium Designer)
  • Programming (Python, MATLAB, C++, LabVIEW)
  • Microwave frequency design (Ku, Ka, V, E-band)
  • Antenna systems and electromagnetic propagation

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through your experience designing power amplifiers or low-noise amplifiers—what were the key performance metrics and tradeoffs you optimized?
  • Describe a time you had to partition RF functionality between analog hardware and digital/software domains. How did you approach that decision?
