AI/ML Engineer
About this role
Ello is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to build intelligent tutoring systems that adapt to individual children's learning needs. You'll own AI features end-to-end—from research and evaluation to production deployment—while collaborating with learning experts to create measurable educational impact.
What you'll do
- Design and improve the agent system that powers adaptive tutoring, including decision-making for intervention and personalization
- Build learner profiling and adaptation systems that model each child's strengths, gaps, pace, and engagement
- Own AI features end-to-end: identify opportunities, build evaluation systems, and ship production improvements
- Develop feedback loops and data flywheels that continuously improve product quality through experimentation
- Collaborate with learning experts and engineers to measure educational quality, engagement, safety, and latency
- Define and assess the impact of AI on children's educational outcomes

- 3+ years building AI products in engineering or research roles
- Strong Python software engineering fundamentals and code quality standards
- AI/ML evaluation and measurement systems design
- Machine learning foundations and ability to read/implement recent ML research
- Applied mathematics and linear algebra proficiency
- Experimental thinking and empirical product improvement methodologies
- Low-latency inference optimization (bonus)
- Model training experience (bonus)
