About this role

HRL Laboratories seeks a Hardware Design Engineer to develop mixed-signal electronic systems for quantum computing applications. You'll design RF/millimeter-wave sensors and advanced circuit boards, translating innovative concepts into prototype hardware while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

What you'll do

  • Design electrical and electronic components, analog/digital subsystems, and associated algorithms per engineering standards
  • Create board-level design requirements, schematics, and test plans with signal/power integrity analysis
  • Perform system bring-up, debugging, and characterization of complex embedded hardware
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors throughout development cycles
  • Analyze product requirements to propose high-performance, cost-effective solutions
  • Conduct tolerance verification, thermal characterization, and system-level power measurements

  • High-speed digital design (PCIe, SERDES, HDMI)
  • PCB schematic capture and layout using CAD tools (Allegro preferred)
  • System bring-up and embedded systems debugging
  • Power integrity design (decoupling, PDN, transient response)
  • Signal integrity analysis (crosstalk, insertion/return loss, termination)
  • RF measurement tools (VNAs, TDRs)
  • Technical documentation and Microsoft Office
  • Analog and digital circuit design
