Blockit AI

Software Engineer, Infrastructure

San FranciscofulltimemidAdded 1 month ago

About this role

Blockit seeks an Infrastructure Software Engineer to own the backend systems powering an AI scheduling agent. You'll design and operate core data infrastructure, observability, and developer experience—treating infrastructure as a product with user-facing performance metrics.

What you'll do

  • Own core data infrastructure (PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, async processing) and measure success through user-facing metrics like scheduling latency and message delivery reliability
  • Design and operate end-to-end observability: metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and on-call rotation
  • Manage LLM infrastructure including gateway, evaluation pipelines, and agent observability for reliability and cost optimization
  • Lead infrastructure migration decisions and execute migrations (e.g., queue systems, email providers, caching layers)
  • Partner with product engineers to ship features where infrastructure and product work are seamlessly integrated
  • Improve developer experience: AI-augmented environments, Claude Code setup, agent tooling, evaluation harnesses, and deployment pipelines

What they're looking for

  • Backend or infrastructure engineering (4+ years)
  • Database expertise (query optimization, schema design, architecture decisions)
  • Production systems operations and incident response
  • Observability systems (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting)
  • Async job processing and distributed systems
  • DevOps and deployment pipeline management
  • Product thinking and user-facing metrics orientation
  • AI/LLM infrastructure (optional but valued)

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a time you owned a production incident—what broke, how did you diagnose it, and what did you change to prevent it next time?
  • Tell us about a migration you led or executed—from one database, queue system, or infrastructure component to another. How did you decide it was necessary, and how did you de-risk it?
