Augrade
Founding AI Engineer, Scan-to-BIM
About this role
Join an early-stage AI startup building foundational models to automate construction design and planning. As a Founding AI Engineer, you'll own the end-to-end scan-to-BIM pipeline, transforming raw 3D scan data into code-compliant, constructible building models using computer vision and geometric algorithms.
What you'll do
- Design and ship the complete scan-to-BIM pipeline from data ingestion through parametric model generation
- Build 3D scene understanding algorithms to segment and reconstruct building elements from noisy, real-world scan data
- Develop IFC-compliant BIM outputs compatible with Revit and AEC workflows
- Create evaluation frameworks and accuracy benchmarks that measure constructibility and real-world usability
- Own production 3D geometry pipelines and debug coordinate systems, registration, and data quality issues
- Solve novel problems in building reconstruction that go beyond existing academic benchmarks
What they're looking for
- 3D computer vision and LiDAR/point cloud processing in production systems
- Python and/or C++ for end-to-end pipeline architecture
- Open3D, PCL, or equivalent 3D processing frameworks
- Semantic or instance segmentation of 3D data
- Graph neural networks or learning on graph-structured data
- CAD/BIM tools and parametric model generation
- First-principles problem-solving in ambiguous spaces
- Digital twins or reality capture systems (nice to have)
Benefits
- Generous PTO and sick leave
- ESOPs commensurate with impact
- Visa sponsorship for select candidates
- Small founding team (20+) with autonomy to solve hard problems
- Access to resources and infrastructure for foundational AI model development
- Opportunity to disrupt a $100B+ construction software market

- Walk us through a production 3D reconstruction or point cloud processing system you've shipped. What was the messiest part of the real-world data, and how did you handle it?
- Describe your experience with semantic or instance segmentation of 3D spatial data. How did you validate accuracy beyond standard benchmarks?
