About this role

Astranis seeks an experienced machinist to program and operate CNC equipment for manufacturing high-precision satellite components. You'll handle everything from programming multi-axis mills and lathes to quality inspection and documentation, supporting the production of flight hardware for advanced spacecraft.

What you'll do

  • Program and set up 2, 3, 5, and 9-axis CNC mills and lathes with tooling selection and operation
  • Inspect finished parts using CMMs and hand tools to verify tolerances and adjust machining processes
  • Read aerospace blueprints and work instructions to produce prototype and production components
  • Document builds in Manufacturing Execution System and track part configuration and issues
  • Procure materials and tooling for scheduled production jobs
  • Write non-conformance tickets for defects and mentor new machine shop users

  • CNC programming (3 and 5-axis mills, 2 and 3-axis lathes)
  • CAM software (Solidworks, Fusion 360, MasterCAM)
  • Fanuc or Siemens CNC controllers
  • Quality inspection and dimensional verification
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience (3+ years)
  • Material knowledge (aluminum, steel alloys)
  • Blueprint and technical documentation reading
  • Safety protocols and shop organization
