About this role

Anduril Industries seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and optimize advanced propulsion systems and high-performance mechanical components for defense applications. You'll lead design efforts from concept through testing, integrating cutting-edge thermo-fluid analysis and simulation techniques across multi-disciplinary teams.

What you'll do

  • Design and analyze novel propulsion systems including electric, turbofan, rocket, and hybrid engines with associated thermal and fluidic management
  • Develop and optimize critical mechanical components such as gearboxes, actuators, and mechanisms for extreme environments
  • Conduct CFD, FEA, and thermodynamic simulations to predict and validate system performance
  • Plan and execute prototype testing, data collection, and root cause analysis to refine designs
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to integrate components into larger platforms
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, maintainability, and production scalability

What they're looking for

  • Propulsion system design and analysis (thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, turbomachinery)
  • CFD software (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM)
  • FEA and multi-physics simulation (ANSYS, Nastran)
  • Professional CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX)
  • GD&T and materials selection
  • Testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition
  • Experimental validation and troubleshooting
  • Manufacturing process knowledge

Benefits

  • Work on cutting-edge defense technology and mission-critical systems
  • Collaborate with talented interdisciplinary teams
  • Competitive salary range $129,000–$171,000 USD
  • Opportunity to shape the future of defense innovation

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a propulsion system you've designed or analyzed from concept to testing—what were the key thermodynamic or fluid dynamics challenges, and how did you validate your approach?
  • Describe your experience with CFD and FEA tools. Have you used them to predict and troubleshoot performance issues in a propulsion or mechanical component, and what was the outcome?
