Anduril Industries
Air-Vehicle Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) Engineer
About this role
Anduril's Air Dominance & Strike Division seeks an experienced MDAO engineer to lead the design optimization of next-generation combat aircraft and autonomous systems. You'll integrate multidisciplinary models across the entire development lifecycle, establish advanced workflows using commercial frameworks, and apply AI-driven methods to accelerate critical design decisions.
What you'll do
- Lead MDAO trade studies and build data-driven workflows collaborating with air-vehicle design teams across programs
- Design parameterized CAD-based geometry models using scripting tools to enable multidisciplinary analysis
- Deploy multi-fidelity workflows, Design of Experiments, optimizations, and Uncertainty Quantification analyses
- Integrate disciplinary models (controls, guidance, 6DOF simulations, subsystems) earlier into design iterations
- Develop and pioneer advanced MDAO methodologies including AI solutions to enhance engineering efficiency
- Mentor discipline experts on efficient modeling practices and guide workflow optimization
What they're looking for
- Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) frameworks and tools
- CAD scripting and parametric geometry generation (e.g., Engineering Sketch Pad)
- Computational engineering analysis for steady-state and transient phenomena
- Design of Experiments, sensitivity analysis, and Uncertainty Quantification
- AI/Machine Learning application to engineering workflows
- 6DOF simulation and aircraft performance modeling
- Workflow automation and systems integration
- Technical leadership and cross-disciplinary collaboration

Likely interview questions
- Describe your experience with commercial MDAO frameworks and how you've used them to automate engineering workflows across multiple disciplines in a real project.
- Walk us through a complex trade study you led that integrated models from different disciplines (e.g., controls, structures, aerodynamics). How did you handle conflicting optimization objectives?
