R&D Test Engineer
About this role
9 Mothers is seeking an R&D Test Engineer to lead high-speed imaging operations for counter-drone and firearms testing. You'll design test setups, operate specialized cameras, extract kinematic data from footage, and deliver quantitative analysis that drives engineering decisions in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
What you'll do
- Plan and execute high-speed imaging campaigns for mechanism analysis and ballistic pattern capture
- Design test setups including camera positioning, field of view, and trigger architecture using pressure sensors and acoustic triggers
- Operate Photron Fastcam and Phantom high-speed camera systems with appropriate frame rates and exposure settings
- Extract kinematic data (displacement, velocity, acceleration) from footage using motion analysis software and calibration techniques
- Produce clear, data-driven reports with uncertainty quantification for mechanical engineers and program leads
- Develop test plans, procedures, and data reduction protocols; manage test infrastructure growth
