42dot
3D Application Engineer
About this role
42dot, Hyundai Motor Group's software center, seeks a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to lead development of next-generation digital cockpits with high-fidelity 3D visualization. You'll architect and optimize real-time 3D environments for in-vehicle infotainment and driver assistance systems, bridging vehicle sensor data with advanced graphics on automotive hardware.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize vehicle HMI using Unreal Engine (C++), Unity3D (C#), or custom 3D rendering systems
- Design integration layer between vehicle sensor data (SDV, VHAL) and 3D scene graphs for low-latency visualization
- Profile and optimize engine performance for automotive SoCs focusing on memory, GPU, and thermal efficiency
- Create custom engine plugins and automated build pipelines for 3D asset deployment to vehicle hardware
- Serve as technical anchor for 3D strategy across architecture and hands-on implementation
What they're looking for
- C++ and graphics programming (Unreal Engine or Unity3D expertise)
- Modern rendering pipeline (PBR, lighting, post-processing) for embedded targets
- 3D mathematics (vectors, quaternions, matrices, spatial transformations)
- Mobile or embedded graphics optimization
- Android Automotive OS (AAOS) or Linux deployment experience
- Shader development (HLSL) and High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP)
- Platform integration with Kotlin or Swift
- Functional safety standards knowledge
Benefits
- Compensation: $172,000 - $237,800
- Work on cutting-edge software-defined vehicle technology
- Role at Global Software Center of major automotive manufacturer
- Opportunity to lead 3D strategy and architecture decisions

Likely interview questions
- Walk us through your experience optimizing 3D rendering performance on embedded automotive hardware. What metrics did you prioritize—GPU utilization, memory footprint, or thermal efficiency—and how did you measure success?
- Describe your hands-on experience with either Unreal Engine (C++, custom shaders) or Unity (HDRP, C#). What was the most complex real-time 3D feature you implemented, and what were the key technical challenges?
