Founding Software Engineer, Platform
About this role
GovWell is seeking a Founding Software Engineer to build and operate core backend platform systems that enable rapid, safe deployment at scale. You'll own CI/CD, observability, incident response, and security infrastructure while writing production code, directly impacting developer velocity and system reliability for mission-critical government services.
What you'll do
- Own deployment and reliability platform to ensure production safety and resilience as the company scales
- Build and evolve CI/CD foundations that improve deployment speed and safety across teams
- Establish observability systems including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting infrastructure
- Lead incident response practices including playbooks, escalation paths, and postmortems
- Own platform-level security and compliance foundations including SOC 2 readiness
- Build internal tooling to reduce infrastructure overhead for product engineers

- Backend or infrastructure engineering with 5+ years production SaaS experience
- Distributed systems and reliability engineering expertise
- CI/CD pipeline design and implementation
- Node.js/TypeScript or similar strong coding ability
- Observability and monitoring systems design
- Modern AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, GPT-based workflows)
- Incident response and postmortem leadership
- Security and compliance foundations
