About this role

Ginkgo Bioworks seeks a software intern to help develop the digital infrastructure for an autonomous laboratory where robots execute scientific experiments 24/7. You'll work with Catalyst, a proprietary software platform that controls robotic lab equipment and integrates AI-driven experimentation through natural language interfaces.

What you'll do

  • Develop Python-based protocols using Catalyst Client to control liquid handlers, plate readers, and robotic arms
  • Assist in building Catalyst Agent, an LLM-based interface for scientists to launch experiments via natural language
  • Create data pipelines to harvest, structure, and upload experimental data from robotic cells into a data lake for AI training
  • Develop device drivers to integrate new hardware instruments into the Catalyst ecosystem
  • Enable "Protocols as Code" workflows for autonomous lab execution
